Minneapolis is rich with interesting history. The nation’s first Better Business Bureau was founded in Minneapolis in 1912. The first children’s department within a library is said to be that of the Minneapolis Public Library, which separated children’s books from the rest of the collection in December of 1889. Minneapolis is even the home of the first automatic pop-up toaster, which was marketed in June 1926 by McGraw Electric Co. under the name “Toastmaster.” (The retail price was only $13.50!). In 1919, a Minneapolis factory turned out America’s first armored car, while Tonka Trucks was busy developing their toys that continue to be manufactured in Minnetonka today.
