Summary: Leads employees in the dispatch and driver department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit. Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies, applicable laws and labor contracts.
The manager works with dispatchers and driver supervisors in the daily supervision and monitoring of all scheduled service, charter and tour drivers. Coordinate dispatch efforts with fleet management to ensure that equipment receives timely and proper preventative maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Driver and Dispatch Supervision
- Manage the driver hiring process of recruiting interviewing , hiring, training as well as retraining drivers in accordance with company standards
- Plan, supervise and track all operator and dispatch performance. Work with safety department, administering appropriate discipline when necessary.
- Along with Fleet/maintenance Operations, ensure operations expenses are within budget and annual management plan goals are met.
- Manage, document and administer operator bonus (Performance Rewards) program.
- Respond to and investigate all driver-involved complaints and customer service issues.
- Support driver safety and D.O.T. compliance initiatives.
- Accurately complete all paperwork including employee status forms, grievances etc. in a timely fashion.
- Respond to employee grievances within timelines stated in the contract.
- Strive to build positive employee and union relations.
- Directs preparation and retention of dispatch and driver records and reports
- Work dispatch shifts due to illness or emergencies
- Directs and participants in training of personnel and issues manuals, bulletins and other correspondence to improve services and operational activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly and indirectly supervise drivers and dispatchers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel/Availability:
This position requires travel which may be adjusted based on the needs of the organization at any given time. This position is responsible to be on-call 24/7 as the need may arise.
Education and/or Experience:
Two-year associate degree in business (four year preferred) or related field plus 2 years of relevant transportation experience (at least one of which must involve supervision) or four years of related experience in transportation operations or dispatch with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience.
Skills/Abilities:
- Detail orientated and customer focused is essential
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as federal and state regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, & procedure manuals.
- Expert knowledge of DOT, federal and state regulations
- Expert knowledge of transportation operations is essential
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret and generate a variety of instructions furnished in written or verbal form.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. May also occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Pre-Employment Driving Record Review and Standards
Jefferson Lines has divisions based in Minneapolis, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, Kansas City, MO, Ft. Smith, AR, Tulsa, OK and Oklahoma City, OK. You must live in, or within 60 miles, of one of these locations to be considered for employment or be willing to relocate.
Age:
- Drivers must be a minimum of 24 years old.
Education:
- Be a high school graduate or GED certified.
Licensing Requirements:
- Have a Class A or Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement.
- Must have at least 18 months of professional CMV driving experience.
- License must be valid in the state which the applicant resides
Physical/ Medical:
- Be able to safely and properly handle/lift luggage and package express at weights of a minimum of 50lbs and up to 100lbs
- Must successfully pass a DOT physical
- Must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen
Criminal Background (10 year history):
- No felony charges
- All Misdemeanor charges must be reviewed by the Safety and Compliance Director with special concern to those related to theft, drugs or violence.
Driving Record:
- No DUI alcohol or drug related violations in the past 5 years
- No reckless or careless driving, using false or fictitious registration plates or license, vehicular homicide, hit and run, or use of vehicle to commit any crime convictions in the past 5 years
- No revocation, suspension or denial of license in the past 3 years
- No more than 2 moving violations and 1 accident in the past 3 years
- No more than 1 moving violation and/ or accidents in the past 12 months
Miscellaneous:
- Professional conduct at all times while on duty or while in uniform.
- Courteous and thoughtful treatment of passengers and other individuals sharing the roadway.
